The new head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Amy Pope will soon be embarking on her first official trip to Africa, where she hopes to bring attention to the large scale of migration happening across the continent.
Following her visit to Africa, Pope will travel to Brussels to discuss the recent surge of migrant arrivals in Italy with the 27-member EU bloc.
As the first woman to lead the IOM, Pope will visit the African Union's headquarters in Addis Ababa and meet with Ethiopian officials before traveling to Kenya and Djibouti.
Pope is expected to discuss with the African Union the best way of guaranteeing the movement of people, in particular, to support the free trade agreements promoted by the organization.
