She was born in 1949 in Cairo and was an actress, singer, comedian, dancer, and entertainer. Her family migrated to Egypt from Aleppo, Syria. Nelly was the younger sister of Fayrouz and cousin of veteran entertainer Lebleba.
Nelly is best known throughout the Arab world for her "Fawazir Ramadan," a set of TV comedy shows with numerous songs and dance routines that became a staple of Ramadan nights, particularly for those born in the 80s and 90s.
She has had a long career in singing, dancing, and acting, which ensured her participation in more than 118 artworks, whether in cinema, theatre, or television.
In 2021, the 43rd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival decided to honor veteran Egyptian actress Nelly with the Golden Pyramid Honorary Award for Lifetime Achievement.
