Chairman of the National Press Authority Karam Gabr was convened with chief editors of national newspapers on Thursday. The meeting tackled necessary reforms needed to be implemented at press institutions.
The meeting also touched on the issue of developing content of the print publications with the aim of increasing effectiveness and achieving their intended impact on public opinion.
Moreover, the meeting’s participants discussed challenges facing national newspapers hindering the achievement of its enlightening and cultural mission.
The meeting witnessed an extensive discussion in which visions and ideas were exchanged in order to find the best way to address the historical problems of the national press.
Here are the meeting’s main points of discussion:
1- The attendees renewed confidence in the political leadership and their support in its steps and procedures to address the risks targeting the Egyptian national security and the war the country is waging with its national institutions against terrorism, and affirming that the national newspapers were and still are supportive, and media-back to the state’s reform plans.
2- Emphasizing the important role of the national newspapers, as they are one of the most important elements of enlightenment and culture in support of the stabilization of the pillars of the Egyptian state and the commitment of the National Press Authority to provide a suitable climate to help national press institutions solve their crises.
3- The commitment of heads of the national institutions to develop their newspapers’ content and emphasize the identity of each publication and what distinguishes it professionally and intellectually, while persifying the used press arts and keeping pace with the latest technological means and attention to public opinion issues and conducting field studies to determine the interests of readers.
4- The meeting agreed that the youth are the fuel and future of the press industry and that the Authority is in the process of developing a training plan for young journalists in cooperation with the Journalists Syndicate and relevant ministries to qualify journalistic and administrative cadres in press institutions.
5- Senior writers are like (a house of experience) and represent intellectual wealth as they are appreciated and respected and their writings represent professional value added to the national newspapers.
6- The National Press Authority keeps its continuous meetings with the press chiefs, senior writers and representatives of the Culture and Information Committee in the House of Representatives, heads of boards of directors, editors-in-chief for press outlets and young journalists.
