On Wednesday, NASA marked the beginning of Earth Week to highlight the environmental changes in the universe by posting a phenomenal "Earthrise" photo on Twitter.

The statement released by the leading space agency said: "Let’s set the scene: It’s Christmas Eve in 1968. During the #Apollo8 mission, astronaut William Anders catches a view of our home planet peeking out beyond the lunar surface.  Anders quickly grabs his Hasselblad camera and snaps this photo from lunar orbit."

It added: "After this iconic photo was taken and circulated worldwide, the world has changed forever. It reminded humans that our home is a fragile beauty. Earthrise is credited for sparking the environmental movement we know today."

In 2021, NASA was putting the final touches on the first manned Lunar mission, Artemis I, for conducting more research on the Earth's companion.

Last year, the agency postponed its plans for the re-sending manned missions to the moon due to COVID-19’s economic aftermath, in addition to the high increase in the mission’s budget that drove the agency to delay the launching of its first exploratory mission to the moon.

Before issuing its latest decision of delaying the mission, NASA completed the installation of the Orion spacecraft on the Space Launch System as a sign for sending the probe to the moon which was later removed.
