Moscow Launches Extensive Security Operation Following "Crocus" Attack

Following the brutal attack on the "Crocus" entertainment and shopping center near Moscow, Russian security services have disclosed partial outcomes of their intensified measures. 

Dozens of individuals involved in weapon and explosives manufacturing, or the conversion of hunting weapons to firearms, have been pursued and detained, highlighting fears of similar attacks in Russian cities.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia reported the arrest of 134 individuals engaged in the fabrication of various firearm models, including the conversion of hunting weapons into military-grade arms and the trade of necessary ammunition.

Despite the FSB stating that this broad campaign was initiated before the "Crocus" incident, the timing of the results' announcement is seen as an effort to reassure the public amidst panic sparked by the recent attack. 

The operation has thwarted criminal activities across 48 Russian regions, seizing 562 pieces of Russian and foreign weaponry, including machine guns, rifles, and pistols.

Security efforts have also extended to social media, with heightened surveillance and crackdowns on accounts inciting violence or disseminating unverified information, considered as sabotage aimed at undermining morale and spreading "lies." 

This includes targeting online accounts suspected of rallying support for terrorist groups or recruiting members for banned organizations.

Following the "Crocus City Hall" terror attack, targeted monitoring has been ramped up, especially on "Telegram" channels used by the attackers, as confirmed by their confessions of being recruited through such platforms.

An official stated, "Since the terrorist attack on the concert hall at (Crocus City Hall), we have undertaken targeted surveillance. 

We have recorded instances of the deliberate distribution of various falsehoods in the aftermath of the terrorist attack, whether fabricated or calling for extremist activity."

This comprehensive security measure reflects the government's resolve to combat terrorism and misinformation, ensuring public safety while navigating the challenges of maintaining a balance between security and the freedom of information.
