Morocco’s Ministry of Health has confirmed the country’s first case of monkeypox, following the virus’s spread across parts of Africa this summer. The World Health Organization (WHO) recently declared monkeypox a global health emergency due to the rising number of cases worldwide.
On Thursday, Moroccan health authorities reported a confirmed case of monkeypox, which was detected under the country's established health protocol following the global health alert. The patient, who was diagnosed in the city of Marrakech, is currently receiving the necessary medical care at a specialized health facility. According to the Ministry of Health, the patient is in stable condition, and there is no cause for concern at this time.
The ministry further stated that the patient is under close medical supervision in accordance with the national health protocol. Preventive measures, including isolation and continuous monitoring, are in place to ensure that the patient’s condition remains stable and that any potential spread of the virus is contained.
In response to the diagnosis, Moroccan health authorities have activated strict quarantine and medical monitoring procedures in line with both national and international health standards. The country is taking all necessary precautions to manage the case and minimize the risk of further transmission.
