Moroccan authorities are implementing a reform program to rehabilitate former ISIS terrorists.
Many ISIS ex-terrorists have benefited from the “reconciliation” program launched by the Moroccan government in 2017 for men and in 2019 imprisoned women who showed a willingness to renounce extremism.
The Moroccan prison program aims to deradicalize former ISIS terrorists, and it is a completely voluntary program that works to “change the behavior of prisoners and improve their life path,” according to the Associated Press news agency.
Mohsen, a 38-year-old former ISIS terrorist who is serving a 10-year prison sentence on terrorism charges, says he left Morocco to join ISIS.
He added that he felt it was a holy fight in Syria and that he saw “all the horrors of war.”
