On Wednesday, a gunman killed more than 10 persons in a supermarket in Chesapeake, Virginia, police said.
It was believed that a store manager opened fire, before shooting himself dead.
Chesapeake tweeted: "police confirm an active shooter incident with fatalities at the Walmart".
Until now, no confirmed number of the fatalities, and the initial number was mentioned by a police officer.
Authorities also didn't announce what is the motive behind the incident.
Spokesperson Leo Kosinski said the incident could have happened inside the store, and that the suspect is the main responsible for the shooting.
The team of the supermarket where the shooting took place said the team was "shocked at this tragic event" and that it was "working closely with law enforcement."
An eyewitness, wearing the supermarket uniform, described what happened. He said he left the staff room, and shortly, the manager entered and opened fire.
The man added: "Sadly we lost a few of our associates," in addition, he didn't mention how many of the supermarket's staff members were killed.
A spokesperson for Sentara Norfolk General Hospital revealed that five persons are being treated in the hospital.
Virginia state Senator L. Louise Lucas commented that she was "absolutely heartbroken".
She tweeted: "I will not rest until we find the solutions to end this gun violence epidemic in our country."
