Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, UN Climate Change High Level Champion for Egypt and UN Special Envoy on Financing 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda, said that universities play vital role in facing climate change through research and studies, as long as providing data and finding solutions.
Mohieldin added, during his participation in the COP28 Universities Network Roundtable, that universities engage effectively in Race to Zero and Race to Resilience campaigns, and contribute to capacity-building at the local level.
He stated that the economic studies carried out by the specialized universities contribute to finding solutions to finance climate action, and mobilize funds from its various resources, adding that they can contribute to the developing industrial and trade policies to achieve green transition without negatively affect other countries or the global trade.
He clarified that universities can play a good role in developing NDCs so that they become more inclusive and reflect the real climate action, saying that they can contribute to developing accountability standards to ensure positive results for partnerships and joint climate action.
