Dr Assem El Gazzar, Minister of Housing, Public Utilities and New Urban Communities, said that bodies of the ministry has completed developing two hundred unsafe areas until now.
He added that another 156 areas are still under going development.
The later areas include 221607 housing units( less than a quarter of million).
En masse, those areas encompass more 152 thousand Egyptian acres (about 60 million square meters).
The minister explained that 18 marketplaces in slums were upgraded and 22 other ones are still under going development.
Upgrading marketplaces aims to provide civilized areas for selling and buying, encouraging trade movement and investment.
He pointed out that works of development are carried out according to the highest international standards.
Services were extended to the newly developed areas to create residential civilized integrated communities.
Dr. El Gazzar assured that the state penetrates that thorny file which was left neglected for decades either by governments or citizens.

He added that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi directed officials to develop slums and unsafe areas across the country to provide a better life for the Egyptian people in those wretched places.
It is worth mentioning that the new housing project aims to enhance the planning methods and tools adopted by the Egyptian Government in order to prepare Strategic Urban Plans which respond to local priorities in an efficient and realistic manner.
Those projects were partnered with the government in order to provide technical and policy support.
This included encouraging policy dialogue on urban development issues as well as strengthening the technical capacity of the national/ territorial Urban Observatory network.

It also contribute to improve performance and accountability in programming the development of the city, especially those that reduce exclusion and vulnerabilities in Egypt.
The main objectives of the assignment were to assess the existing shelter, basic urban services and economic situation in cities while integrating these analyses into a comprehensive Strategic Urban Plan.
The stakeholders constituted the framework ensuring consistency among local development plans. The ownership of the process developed synergies among public and private stakeholders which guided towards an effective economic and social development of cities.
