Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly announced a plan for developing the downtown area to become a tourist destination, with large green spaces and pedestrian streets. This is what we dreamed of, we seek to have a downtown area in the middle of a country befitting Egypt’s history and civilization, without crowding or pressure, especially after the ministries were evacuated of employees.
The development project turns the area into a tourist destination while preserving its archaeological appearance without pressure on the infrastructure in addition to transforming the ministries’ buildings into luxury hotels that preserve their heritage facades. The project is wonderful. It will transform the area into a cultural tourist destination and pump large revenues in hard currency.
The buildings that were offered for investment are the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Housing, and the General Authority for Urban Planning. Dr. Mostafa Madbouly said that this comes within the framework of the state’s vision for optimal exploitation of all tourist areas. After evacuating the downtown area from ministries, work is currently underway to reuse it as hotels, some streets will.be allocated for pedestrians only.
From my point of view, it is a big step that we need it, but I have some questions about the other archaeological sites, such as the building of the League of Arab States and the Parliament, which are historical places. I hope that the state will announce turning them into museums that tell this history and the ancient heritage that this region witnessed. The focus must be on culture, and every building must have its history written on it, along with publications and documentaries explaining the history of the building.
Recently, We heard about selling the Mogamma El Tahrir and turning it into a hotel, What happened to them now? there must be a specific time frame and a clear plan for these historical buildings. What Dr. Mostafa announced is very good planning, but we want to know the details clearly. The experience of the Administrative Capital Company was a successful one. I wish a company or council affiliated to the government will manage the region in a consistent manner.
