Mexican authorities have announced plans to seal a secret tunnel discovered along the border between Mexico and the United States.
The tunnel, which provides access from Ciudad Juárez to El Paso, Texas, was uncovered on January 10 by security agencies from both nations.
Authorities are currently investigating the sophisticated construction process behind the passage.
Spanning about 300 meters on the Mexican side, the tunnel is equipped with lighting, ventilation systems, and reinforcements to prevent collapses.
It was found concealed within a shared drainage system that connects the two cities. The passage measures about 1.8 meters in height and 1.2 meters in width, enabling the transport of individuals or smuggled goods.
General José Lemos, the military commander overseeing the area, emphasized the extensive effort required to construct the tunnel.
Mexican prosecutors are leading the investigation, focusing on whether local authorities might have been complicit in allowing the tunnel to be built unnoticed.
Interestingly, discussions about the tunnel and its location had surfaced on social media platforms like TikTok before its discovery, raising questions about how it evaded official detection for so long.
