Meta teamed up with the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to launch its digital literacy flagship program “My Digital World” in Palestine.

In partnership with the Center for Continuing Education (CCE) at Birzeit University, the platform will enable Palestinian students to safely and responsibly navigate digital spaces and leverage the infinite potential of an increasingly digital world, besides safeguarding their well-being.

Joelle Awwad, Head of Policy Programs at Meta, said: “A generation of digitally-savvy youth is defining the future of the MENA region. At Meta, we believe that online safety is fundamental to that progress; My Digital World is our commitment to achieve this.”

Last November, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg told employees that he is laying off more than 11,000 workers (13% of total staff).

Zuckerberg pointed out that he had anticipated rapid growth even after the COVID-19 pandemic ended.

“Unfortunately, this did not play out the way I expected,” he said in his letter. "I got this wrong, and I take responsibility for that.”

The CEO elaborated: “Not only has online commerce returned to prior trends, but the macroeconomic downturn, increased competition, and ads signal loss have caused our revenue to be much lower than I’d expected."
