The first meeting of the States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons will be held in Vienna on June 21st, and will last for three days under the chairmanship of Ambassador Alexander Kment (Austria), to examine the implementation of the Treaty and measure progress towards its objectives.
The United Nations Headquarters in Vienna said in a statement today, Monday, that the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons entered into force on January 22 last year, the first multilateral treaty on nuclear disarmament in more than two decades.
The statement added that United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, described the treaty as an important step toward a world free of nuclear weapons; to support a multilateral approach to nuclear disarmament.
