When Joe Biden heads to the White House, his faithful partner, Jill, will be by his side.
The committed English teacher met the future president of the United States on a blind date while she was in college, and in 1977 they tied the knot.
They hit it right away, but Jill wasn't sure he was going to marry Joe right away. In fact, she said no when he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife. Four times. Luckily, Joe, who will be America's 46th president, didn't give up, and she said yes when he asked for the fifth time.
The couple tied the knot in 1977, two years after their first date. She had already arranged a date for the night they were supposed to meet, but Joe, very adamant, convinced her to postpone it so that they could leave.
They went out for dinner and a movie and ended up seeing each other for three nights in a row.
Jill wasn't put off by the nine-year age gap and liked how mature he was compared to the guys she had dated in college.
In an interview with Vogue magazine, she said: "I was a senior, and I had been dating guys in jeans and clogs and T-shirts, he came to the door and he had a sport coat and loafers, and I thought: "God, this is never going to work, not in a million years." He was nine years older than I am!
She was born to Jill Tracy Jacobs in 1951 in Hammonton, New Jersey, but grew up in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, with her four younger sisters, mother and homemaker Bonny Jean, and her father Donald, who was a bank teller.
She was rebellious at Upper Moreland High School but showed an interest and potential in her English class.
Jill attended Brandywine Junior College for one semester, with an intention to study fashion merchandising, but found it unsatisfying, instead of switching to the University of Delaware to read English.
