Mediterranean's Low-pressure Brings Heavy Rain throughout Week in Egypt

The low-pressure system in the Mediterranean Sea hit Alexandria, and the regions and neighborhoods of the governorate bringing heavy rains, a noticeable drop in temperatures, with cold weather, and partly cloudy, amidst wind activity.

The satellites revealed, according to the meteorological authority’s (EMA) statement that there is a proliferation of low and medium rainy clouds over the governorates of the northwestern coasts, including “Matrouh and Alexandria,” in addition to the governorates of Kafr El-Sheikh, Damietta, and Beheira.

Major General Mohamed al-Sharif, the governor of Alexandria stated that the level of maximum readiness to deal with the heavy rains that the governorate is exposed to has been raised, and that there is a permanent meeting of the operations room within the governorate.

The governor of Alexandria added that the executive bodies are present in the streets and squares of the governorate to monitor the situation around the clock and deal immediately with the repercussions to ensure traffic liquidity.

On his part, Mahmoud Nafeh, head of the sanitation company in Alexandria indicated that the purification work of about 140,000 sewers is continuing, stressing the readiness of the pumping stations to absorb rainwater in the cities of the governorate.

The maximum temperature in Alexandria today was 19 °C, and the lowest was 13 degrees Celsius, while the wind speed reached 28 kilometers per hour.

On Monday, it is expected that moderate to severe rain will fall intermittently in the eastern regions of the northern coast, as well as the areas of the cities of the Suez Canal.

There are also chances of flooding in the northern and central Sinai regions on the same day.

Intermittent light to moderate rain is expected in the western regions of the northern coast, as well as areas in Lower Egypt, South Sinai and the Suez Canal coast.

Greater Cairo and northern Upper Egypt is expected to witness light rain.

It is expected that light, sporadic rain will fall on the western regions of the northern coast, and the areas of the Red Sea mountains on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, light to moderate rain is expected to fall on the western regions of the northern coast again, as well as the northern regions of Lower Egypt. Precipitation is expected from Thursday to Saturday on the northern coast and northern Lower Egypt.
