The US Department of Defense (the Pentagon) does not have sufficient funds to build an effective military force in the Middle East, Western media reported.
It revealed that the Pentagon had ordered the sending of an additional aircraft carrier, air defense systems, fighter aircraft, and hundreds of American forces to the region amid the escalation of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
American officials confirmed that the lack of consensus in Congress on the issue of approving funding for the current year is due to the fact that the US Department of Defense does not have the funds necessary to pay the costs of increasing the presence of its forces in the Middle East.
US newspaper Politico quoted Tuesday an anonymous source as saying the Pentagon currently has only limited funds allocated within the budget of the previous fiscal year, while a permanent budget for the current year has not yet been approved.
