MDL Beast Music Festival Kicks Off

Tens of thousands of electronic music fans flocked Thursday to Saudi's capital Riyadh for 10 hours of non-stop electronic music, as the MDL Beast music three-day festival kicked off.

It will take place from December 19-21, hosted at a huge outdoor venue in Banban that consists of five stages, each build with a unique design reflecting its performers.

The festival's line-up showcase about 18 global superstar headliners, 28 international dance acts and 24 local and regional performers, some of the best musicians and DJs in the world, such as David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Steve Aoki, and R3hab.

Egyptian superstar Mohamed Hamaki and Saudi singer Rabeh Saqur, in particular, drew massive crowds on the festival's opening day.

Five stages

The festival's five stages consist of the Saudi Beast stage, the UG Beast 1 and 2, the Down Beast, and the Big Beast.

The Saudi Beast stage, which showcases native talent, is decorated with arches that reflect traditional Saudi architecture.

The UG Beast 1 and 2, which are hosting underground DJs, is adorned with metal shipping containers that have been repainted and artistically arranged.

The Down Beast, which presting local and international artists, is beautified with a massive sculpture of a tree at its center.

The Big Beast is a huge stage in a space that can accommodate up to 45,000 people.

The festival grounds also included a retail area, a world-class culinary section, and an art zone, which featured a circus show, a “light parade”, which displayed performers wearing illuminated costumes, an inflatable labyrinth, and shows by aerial contortionists.

'Uniqueness'

General Entertainment Authority Chairman Turki Al-Sheikh launched a campaign on social media, encouraging festivalgoers to wear a bandana, which gives the festival a unique identity.

Al Sheikh's request was well-received by the festivalgoers who were spotted wearing a bandana on their heads and wrists throughout the festival.

Al-Sheikh took to Twitter to celebrate the huge turnout from the visitors, which received 130,149.
