Today, the "Matkhafeesh" initiative for supporting women against sexual harassment launched its new app for providing women with legal, social, and psychological support.
Founded by Salma Medhat Shaaban and Ahmed Rihan, the application will provide sexual harassment victims with various services helping them to overcome the crisis.
Shaaban told SEE, "The application is a digital way to battle the rising rates of sexual harassment in Egypt."
She continued, "We depend on the information provided by the victims anonymously. The user can enter the data of the place, and the degree of the harassment she faced without asking for her identity."
"The flow of information can give us accurate statistics to help activists and organizations in order to battle this phenomenon," she described.
"This helps us in setting accurate and updated areas that witnessed sexual harassment. That information will be sent to the concerned authorities to form a protecting campaign and rising awareness initiatives," Shaaban indicated.
"Moreover, this information will be added to form a map on the number of reported sexual harassment cases in different areas," she underscored.

Regarding the psychological and legal support the application serves, "there is legal support provided by an expert staff of lawyers who are experienced in dealing with women's cases," she said.
"The lawyers will be well selected, the process of interviewing the lawyers to make sure of the quality of the service," she expressed.
The same goes with selecting the professional therapists who will be required to provide the users with mental and psychological support to overcome the tragic experience, according to her.
The final service provided by the application is social support. "It is one of the options that give the user the ability to form a private room of trusted persons. In case she faces danger, the app can call her circle persons sending them her current location.
Regarding the "Legal Support," the user can check lawyers' contacts who are experienced in this field.
Another service presented is "psychological support" which gives the user the opportunity to ask for professional help.
Concerning the idea of the application, Shaaban narrated that they noticed that women became stronger and wiser so they had the courage to speak about the abuse they faced.
Also, the increase of digital sexual harassment drove them to think of a digital contemporary way to fight against sexual harassment.
In addition, she revealed that the application started receiving the earliest registrations on the map, while the stage of interviewing the lawyers and the therapists is still ongoing.
