Mashat Holds 7 Multi-Stakeholder Platforms across Various Development Sectors

With the participation of the Ministries of Petroleum, Finance, Supply, and Communications, as well as Several National and Private Agencies and Civil Society Organizations. the Ministry of International Cooperation Held 7 Multi-Stakeholder Platforms Across Various Development Sectors.

This came with the Participation of 800 Representatives from National and International Agencies; Bringing in 80 Potential Opportunities

The Ministry of International Cooperation announced the annual achievements of the year 2021, and the international cooperation and development financing developments, in order to build on the consolidated economic relations with bilateral and multilateral development partners, in order to push forward the achievement of Egypt’s Vision 2030, which also aligns with the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

The year 2021 witnessed 7 Multi-Stakeholder Platforms (MSPs) across sectors of food security, microfinance, digitization, the private sector, communications and information technology, public-private partnerships, energy and petroleum, and investing in human capital.

The MSP is the first principle of Economic Diplomacy, which is hosting Multi-Stakeholder Platforms to streamline efforts and achieve value-centric results that come as a result of interactive conversations with all stakeholders. All while ensuring complementarity, multi-stakeholder platforms also provide an opportunity to learn from one another.

The MSPs work towards creating an institutional framework for coordinating and integrating efforts between all stakeholders, through holding periodic meetings between development partners and governments agencies in order to advance towards the achievement of the SDGs, as well as to present Egypt's development story and exerted efforts across various sectors, as well as economic reforms. MSPs also work to ensure the coherence of the development partners’ efforts.

In 2021, the 7 held MSPs witnessed the participation of over 800 representatives from government agencies and bilateral and multilateral development partners, as well as the private sector and the civil society, bringing in 80 potential opportunities and 40 requests for collaboration.

The technical cooperation teams at the Ministry of International Cooperation are constantly following up on the results of the MSPs, and the strategies presented by government agencies; they also coordinate with development partners to discuss potential cooperation opportunities at the technical and financial levels.

ICT Sector for Development

This MSP was held under the title “Communications and Information Technology for Development” in the presence of the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, H.E. Dr. Amr Talaat, and a number of officials from both Ministries, and multilateral and bilateral development partners. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s Digital Egypt Strategy was presented as well as the latest developments in the ICT sector in Egypt, notably related to the “Decent Life”, “Electronic Manufacturing”, and “Assistive Technologies” initiatives.

MSMEs: The Power of Small

This engagement featured the latest developments to enhance the microfinance ecosystem in Egypt including the implementation of an inclusive institutional graduation program for the various microfinance NGO categories developed by the Egyptian Microfinance Federation in alignment with the Financial Regulatory Authority and the Central Bank of Egypt and complemented by the integration of a microfinance score model by I-Score.

Egypt as an Energy Hub: Reforms and Prospects in the Petroleum and Gas Sector

This engagement was held with H.E. Eng. Tarek El Molla, the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and officials from major foreign and private companies operating in Egypt, including Apache Egypt, TAQA Arabia, Schlumberger, and SAP. The MSP highlighted the importance of the petroleum sector, as the Government of Egypt announced its intention to transform the country into a regional energy center that would further enhance its leadership across many fields.

Sustainable Value Chains: Towards Food Security

This engagement was held under the title: “Sustainable Value Chains: Towards Food Security” with the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, H.E. Dr. Ali Moselhi, and showcased the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade to enhance sustainable value chains and push towards achieving food security. Al-Moselhi presented the Ministry's strategy to promote sustainable value chains and food security by working towards achieving self-sufficiency regarding strategic food commodities, such as wheat, which comes at the top of the list. He pointed out that Egypt produces 8-9 million tons of wheat on an annual basis, whereas the volume of consumption rate is 18 million tons; hence the country fills the gap which is estimated at 9 - 10 million tons per year, through imports.

Public Private Partnership: Expanding the Role of the Private Sector

This engagement was held with H.E. Dr. Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, and showcased the government’s reforms that aim to expand the role of the Private Sector in the Egyptian Economy through PPP (Public-Private Partnerships). The Ministry of Finance presented its recent restructuring efforts and vision to boost the PPP Program, in addition to future PPP projects in different sectors, which are currently in the pipeline.

Digitalization as an Enabler for the Private Sector

This engagement titled: titled “Digitalization as an Enabler for the Private Sector”, featured the latest developments by e-Finance and I-Score, with two leading Egyptian companies offering transformative digital solutions to the private sector notably related to agriculture, e-market places, and financial services.

Investing in Human Capital for Sustainable Development

This engagement was held under the title: “Investing in Human Capital For Sustainable Development” with the Executive Director of the National Training Academy (NTA) Rascha Ragheb, to showcase the NTA’s strategy and efforts in providing training programs for Egyptian youth, and plans to develop human capital.
