Luhansk Separatists Exchange Heavy Accusations with Ukraine over Cease-fire Violations

The separatist leadership and Russian state media have accused Ukraine of preparing to launch an attack on the separatist territory in Donbas.

Western officials and independent experts worry that Russia may lay the groundwork for a pretext it could use to justify military intervention.

Yan Leshchenko, head of the People's Militia in the self-declared Lugansk republic said that Kyiv is trying to escalate the conflict in Donbas.

Tensions have escalated in eastern Ukraine as Ukrainian soldiers said that Russian-controlled separatists have bombed a nursery in a Ukrainian government-controlled area and warned of an escalation, amid fears that Russia may build up for a possible invasion.

The People's Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk on Thursday issued "emergency statements" alleging that Ukrainian forces fired on civilian areas in nine villages, accusing Ukraine of ordering a "mass provocation".

A video clip filmed by Ukrainian soldiers showed a hole in the wall of the school. Reports said that 20 children were evacuated but were unharmed.

At least 14,000 people have died during the eight-year conflict in Ukraine, and from indiscriminate artillery fire from both sides.
