Egyptian Documentary film "Lift Like a Girl" is receiving international recognition after participating at the Cairo International Film Festival. The film may represent Egypt in more international festivals after receiving positive reviews.
Directed by May Zeyada, it revolves around Captin Ramadan and his trainee Asmaa's (Zibeba) journey to be a worldwide weight lifter.
Zeyada expressed in her interview with Sky News Arabia that all of Captin Ramadan's daughters became award-winning athletes, so the film documenting his journey with his youngest trainee Asmaa to an African victory.
She continues that she wanted to move the real-life to screen and give the audience the chance to trace this 3-year-journey.
The film won the Dok Leipzig Golden Dove award for Best Feature and it participated in various festivals such as Toronto Film Festival.
After its screening at CIFF, many celebrities and critics praise the film in the memory of Captin Ramadan who passed away before the film's screening.
The film is one of 3 Egyptian participants at the international competition of the 42nd Cairo International Film Festival alongside "Curfew" by Amir Ramses, and "About Her" by Islam El Azazi.
