Libya's Government of National Accord (GNA) Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha described on Monday his assassination attempt as a "well-planned" operation.
In exclusive statements to "Reuters", Bashagha said that a car began to encroach on his convoy and people inside the car opened fire, which led to an exchange of fire in which one of his guards and one of the attackers were killed.
“It is not an incident that came by chance, but was well-planned,” Bashagha said, adding that his guards chased the car that overturned and arrested two people, one of whom is wanted by the police.
The U.S. ambassador to Libya Richard Norland said that the U.S. condemns the assassination attempt Bashagha.
In press statements, Norland said that Washington supports efforts aimed at confronting rogue militias.
