Libya's Interior Minister in the temporary Government of National Unity, Emad Al-Trabulsi, has highlighted the challenges posed by irregular migration, emphasizing its impact on the country's finances.

He stated that the responsibility lies with the members of the agency to curb this phenomenon, which has led to the accumulation of debts due to the provisions, housing, and repatriation of those apprehended.

Minister Al-Trabulsi made these remarks during an inspection tour of the agency responsible for combating irregular migration, accompanied by agency chief Colonel Mohamed Al-Khoja and Brigadier General Nouraldin Abougriida, the Director of International Relations and Cooperation.

In his address to the daily meeting of agency personnel combating irregular migration, Al-Trabulsi commended the efforts of agency members in combatting this phenomenon, which has strained the budgets of the Ministry of Interior.

On September 6th of last year, Minister Al-Trabulsi emphasized that Libya had paid a significant price for accommodating migrants and providing them with assistance.

He explained that this issue requires a unified effort from state institutions and citizens due to its security, health, economic, and social implications for the Libyan state.

On December 18, 2022, Al-Trabulsi requested Italian support for the ministry's plan to combat irregular migration, which was developed by a committee of relevant ministry components.
