Libyan Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh stated that his country is counting on the U.S. role to resolve the division crisis in Libya.
In an interview with Al-Hurra TV on Wednesday from Washington, Saleh said, "The United States is playing an important role in solving the Libyan crisis," stressing the need to form a small government to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.
The Libyan Parliament Speaker continued, "Having two governments is not in Libya's interest. We want a single, small government with specific tasks and a defined time frame to organize the elections." He also rejected the interference of some countries, which he did not name, in Libya's internal affairs, holding them fully responsible for obstructing the formation of the small government.
This exclusive interview comes on the sidelines of Aguila Saleh's unexpected visit to the United States.
The talks in Washington focused on the latest developments in the Libyan crisis and the presentation of several solutions that require international community support and assistance to be implemented on the ground. The aim is to fulfill the Libyan people's will by organizing presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible and ending the political division in the country.
