The Libyan Higher Commission for Elections suggested today, Wednesday, postponing the first round to January 24.
The commission issued today a statement that says that it takes responsibility to conduct liberal and fair elections lead to change the power in Libya peacefully.
The statement assured that such elections result in a state of stability as a step toward constructing the state of law and institutions wanted by Libyans.
The commission revealed that some difficulties hindered running parliamentarian elections on December 24 despite its technical and logistics readiness to run the elections on the appointed date.
The statement of the elections’ commission affirmed that in light of article 43 of Law No.,1 for 2021 that regulates electing the head of state in Libya, his power, and amendments of the law, the commission decided to postpone the parliamentarian elections for thirty days.
The commission, in coordination with the House of Representatives (HoR), suggests postponing the first round to Jan. 24, 2022.
The commission asks the HoR to take suitable steps to remove the state of force majeure that hinders completing electing of the president of the country.
Regarding the parliamentarian elections, the commission assured that it is about to applications for the candidates soon.
The commission pointed out that it will release the primary list of the approved candidates for the HoR.
Then the commission will receive challenges against the candidates later.
The commission urges legislative and judiciary authorities to assume their responsibilities to take measures that achieve the hopes of the Libyan people and its aspirations toward a better future filled with peace, development, and welfare.
