CR Flamengo has officially announced the appointment of Leonardo Jardim as the club’s new head coach, replacing Filipe Luís, who was dismissed earlier this week.

The Brazilian giants confirmed the decision in an official statement welcoming the Portuguese manager and revealing that Jardim has signed a contract that will keep him in charge of the team until December 2027.

Flamengo Turn to Jardim After Surprise Dismissal

The dismissal of Filipe Luís came on Tuesday following a run of disappointing results at the start of the season. The decision raised eyebrows among supporters and analysts, particularly because the former Brazilian defender had enjoyed major success with the club.

Last season, Filipe Luís guided Flamengo to both the Brazilian league title and the Copa Libertadores, making his departure a surprising move despite the recent dip in form.

Coaching Staff Confirmed

Flamengo also confirmed that Jardim will be joined by several assistants as part of his technical staff, including António Vieira, José Barros, and Diogo Dias, who will support him in his new role.

Jardim previously managed several prominent clubs in Europe, most notably AS Monaco, where he gained recognition for leading the team to the 2016–17 Ligue 1 title and guiding them to a memorable run in the UEFA Champions League. ⚽
