Lebanon's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in the caretaker government, Abdallah Bouhabib, called for clarifications from the United Nations (UN) about suspending Lebanon's right to vote in international organizations after the expiration of the period that was extended to pay its financial contribution to it.

Yesterday, Bouhabib held a meeting with the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Joanna Frontska, and her deputy, Humanitarian Coordinator, Imran Reda, as part of follow-up contacts on the issue of Lebanon paying its contribution to the United Nations budget.

Bouhabib said, during the meeting, "The Lebanon Mission in New York had previously been informed by the Contributions Office to the United Nations of extending the payment deadline, and thus Lebanon retained its right to vote until the end of January 2023."

The Lebanese minister demanded, "clarifications on the reason for the change that took place and the suspension of his right to vote before the end of the aforementioned period."
