The Palestinian Authority announced Friday the delivery of a third batch of weapons from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) inside refugee camps in Beirut to the Lebanese Army, as part of an ongoing disarmament initiative.

Shortly before the announcement, Lebanese army units deployed at the entrance of Burj al-Barajneh camp in southern Beirut to oversee the handover process.

Earlier this week, on Wednesday, the Lebanese Army confirmed in a statement that it had received a shipment of Palestinian weapons in the South Litani region, in line with a government directive.

The latest transfer comes under a broader plan to remove Palestinian arms from refugee camps, a process launched on August 21. Since then, the army has collected heavy and medium weapons from factions including Fatah, notably within Burj al-Barajneh camp, according to Lebanon’s An-Nahar newspaper.

The phased disarmament is seen as a significant step toward strengthening state authority and reducing the risk of armed clashes inside the camps, where weapons have long been a source of tension between Palestinian factions and Lebanese security forces.
