The Lebanese army announced the arrest of 5 people, including a Syrian citizen, over suspension of participating in acts of sabotage, rioting and setting fire to the Tripoli Municipality building in northern Lebanon, during the protests that erupted in the city.
In a statement, the army command stressed that the military units spare no effort in maintaining security and stability in the city of Tripoli and all the Lebanese regions.
The Army Command affirmed its respect for the right to peaceful demonstration and expression of opinion, warning those who violate the security rules that they would be pursued, arrested, and referred to the judiciary.
Noteworthy, the protests in Tripoli in Lebanon raised concern about the security situation in the country, which prompted Lebanese President Michel Aoun to call on the Security Council to intervene to assess the security situation in the country.
