Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Sunday that Moscow has not received any requests from Syria to review the agreements regarding Russian military bases in the country. He clarified that the new Syrian authorities have not initiated any actions to reconsider these agreements.
In an interview with the Russian state news agency *Sputnik*, Lavrov emphasized, "Syria is a sovereign state with the right to establish or terminate agreements with foreign partners. However, we are not aware of any measures being taken by the new authorities to reassess or limit such agreements, and the Russian side has not received any related requests."
Lavrov noted that each agreement defines the operational conditions for the military installations and includes mutual obligations for both sides.
He acknowledged that changes in governance and evolving ground realities in Syria have naturally led to certain adjustments in Russia's military presence.
Lavrov added, "This is not just about maintaining our bases or positions but also about the conditions of their operation, maintenance, provisioning, and interaction with the local authorities. These matters could become subjects for negotiation with the new Syrian leadership."
