Russia’s President Vladimir Putin and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron discussed Ukraine over a phone conversation on Monday, the Kremlin said.
Putin drew Macron’s attention to “provocative actions” that Kyiv is carrying out in eastern Ukraine, the Kremlin affirmed in a statement.
The Kremlin said that Putin and Macron had confirmed their intention to continue cooperation in the Normandy format to address the situation in Ukraine.
Meantime, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Alexei Reznikov revealed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would not be able to accept the invitation of Putin to come to Moscow for talks.
Zelensky cannot go to the capital and meet with “a person who is a representative of the aggressor country. It seems to me that this is a bit of a strange proposal,“ Reznikov mentioned.
Last Thursday, Putin offered to meet Zelensky, affirming that he was welcome in Moscow “any time.”
However, he stressed that he should discuss the conflict in eastern Ukraine with separatists directly.
