The IUCN Performance Site Assessment Report for world natural heritage sites for the year 2020 praised the Wadi El Hitan site as one of the geological World Heritage sites in Egypt.

IUCN confirmed that Wadi El Hitan is managed with love, efficiency, professionalism, and skill by qualified, committed, and distinguished employees in their work.

It is distinguished with the highest levels of security, the use of good governance mechanisms, and led to the activation of the updated management plan in 2019 for the Wadi Al-Rayan protectorate.

Here is the most prominent information about the history of Wadi El Hitan.

- Wadi El Hitan`s story is related to the changes that occurred before, during, and after the formation of rocks.

- 40 million years ago, there were two geological processes that changed Wadi El Hitan`s form, the first process established the old form of the earth and the second explained the changes that occurred continuously.

- The warm weather prevented the formation of snow in the Arctic and Antarctica, which caused an increase in the rate of water in the oceans.

-The presence of the Tithi sea in northern Africa continued for hundreds of millions of years, and if the situation continued like this, Egypt would remain under the water surface and accumulate many sediments on it.

-After the rocks of Egypt`s Wadi El Hitan were buried, the climate of the earth changed, and this led to the formation of snow in the Antarctic, which led to the transformation of many oceans to snow and led to the drying up of the Tathi Sea and the emergence of the land of Egypt.

- After that, the earth was exposed in different geological eras to a wetter climate than what we live in now, and the heavy rains caused the existence of rivers in North Africa. These rivers were able to remove a lot of rocks and sediments, and it is possible that they were the cause of the formation of the Wadi El Hitan heights.
