The head of the Sudanese Commission for Border Demarcation denied Ethiopia's allegations and accusations of the Sudanese army of breaking into its territory.

The Sudanese official stressed that the areas in which the army was deployed east of Atbara River are all Sudanese.

He said in statements quoted by the media that Sudan  challenges Ethiopia to determine the Ethiopian sites where the Sudanese army is located."

Ethiopia had claimed that the Sudanese army penetrated into border strips under Ethiopian control.

However, military sources revealed that the Sudanese army monitored the movements of the Ethiopian army on the border strip between the two countries, indicating the possibility of renewed confrontations between the two parties.

The Sudanese newspaper, Al-Mashhad, quoted media reports, stating that the Sudanese side had monitored a number of Ethiopian intelligence cells inside Sudanese territory providing the Ethiopian army with sensitive information.

The newspaper pointed out that the Sudanese army is ready to confront any possible attack on its eastern borders

The Sudanese Security and Defense Council said it supports the efforts of the Sudanese Armed Forces to protect the eastern borders. The Council directed concerned bodies to investigate the clashes between Sudanese security forces and demonstrators.

On the 29th of December, the Sudanese army announced that its forces are fighting a war with the Ethiopian regular forces and not Ethiopian militias, revealing that the Ethiopian units in the border zone possess heavy weaponry.

The Sudanese army announced the restoration of large agricultural areas at the border with Ethiopia, accusing internal groups of helping external parties to uproot the border markers with Ethiopia.

In a new escalating tone from the Ethiopian side, Addis Ababa claimed last December, that there are violations by the Sudanese army near its borders and the commission of illegal acts, stressing that its forces are in a state of readiness and preparedness on the border with Sudan.
