World Environment Day is observed on June 5 every year to raise awareness and encourage action for the protection of our planet.

It also aims at providing a platform to voice friends of environment associations' concerns and highlight the negative impacts of global warming on the global community.

The day was first founded by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, and since then, over 150 countries participate in various activities to celebrate this day.

The theme of this year is “Solutions to Plastic Pollution”, according to the UN.

On this occasion, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) called for greater efforts to limit waste and transition to a circular economy, as well as releasing a Beat Plastic Pollution Practical Guide and encouraging social media posts under the hashtag BeatPlasticPollution.

In the same connection, UN Chief Antonio Guterres said: "We must work as one – governments, companies, and consumers alike – to break our addiction to plastics, champion zero waste, and build a truly circular economy."
