Jordan and Israel signed today, Thursday, a new agreement that would allow mutual flights between the airspace of the two countries, which would significantly shorten flight times between the Gulf countries, Asia, and the Far East, in addition to Europe and North America.
"The agreement was signed after negotiations that began several years ago by the civil aviation and airport authorities in Israel and Jordan,” said a report by Israeli state-owned Makan TV channel.
The new agreement between Jordan and Israel shall contribute to saving fuel, and may reduce the price of air flights as well.
“The signing was accelerated and completed after the signing of the peace agreement with the United Arab Emirates and allowing direct flights between Israel and the UAE through the Saudi airspace,” the report added.
The agreement means that starting from Friday, October 9, Emirates Airlines and Bahrain will be able to fly over Israeli airspace to destinations in Europe and North America.
“The agreement will significantly cut flight times to Gulf countries, Asia and the Far East, leading to fuel savings and less pollution,” Israel’s Transportation Ministry said.
