Japan's Tohoku Electric Power Company has announced the temporary closure of Reactor No. 2 at the Onagawa Nuclear Power Plant, located in the northeastern region of the country, for a scheduled safety inspection.
According to Japanese media reports, this shutdown is part of the plant’s regular maintenance procedures.
If no issues are identified during the inspection, the reactor is expected to be reactivated within the next 10 days, with the commercial operation resuming in December.
The reactor was initially brought back online on October 29 for the first time since the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011.
However, the reactor was forced to shut down again on November 4 due to a malfunction in measuring equipment.
After implementing precautionary measures, Tohoku Electric successfully restarted the reactor on November 13, and it began generating and transmitting electricity on November 15.
