Hirokazu Matsuno, the Chief Cabinet Secretary of Japan, said Japan has sent a protest to Russia against Moscow's decision to halt peace treaty talks between the two countries.

On Tuesday, Matsuno considered in a press statement that Moscow's decision to withdraw from the peace treaty talks is unjustified" and completely unacceptable.

In the same context, the Japanese News Agency published a report on the deterioration of relations between Moscow and Tokyo, which described Moscow's decision as a "serious threat, challenge, and a black thread."

The report at the same time criticized Tokyo and considered that the administration of Prime Minister Fumio Kishida should have to be careful when it takes steps against Russia (the sanctions against Moscow).

"Russia and Japan had problems after World War two, but relations in the field of culture, education, and trade developed well. We have constantly maintained relations of trust in many areas. Now, if the Japanese government cuts these relations, it will be bad for Ukraine, and for the entire global community, and it will also be a great loss to Japan," the report said.

On Monday, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in response to what it considered unfriendly steps by Tokyo, to halt the negotiation of the peace treaty with Japan and overturn the decision for visa-free travel for Japanese citizens to the south Kuril Islands.

Moscow also withdrew from the dialogue with Japan on the development of joint economic activities in the south Kuril Islands.

The Russian Foreign Ministry Affairs explained that these steps are response measures to the obvious unfriendly nature of the unilateral restrictions imposed by Japan against Russia for Ukraine's situation.
