On Tuesday, the Government of Japan announced a new partnership with the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) on February 27, 2024. This collaboration underscores Japan's commitment to supporting vulnerable communities in Gaza, providing essential aid in the form of food, shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) assistance.

The Japanese government's decision to channel this aid through the ERC is part of a broader Emergency Grant Aid initiative, wherein Japan has pledged USD 3 million to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). This funding aims to bolster the IFRC's efforts in delivering critical humanitarian support to those in need.

During a visit to the ERC headquarters, H.E. Mr. OKA Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Egypt, officially conveyed this commitment to Dr. Ramy El-Nazer, CEO of the ERC. Ambassador Hiroshi expressed Japan's deep appreciation for the ERC's pivotal role in facilitating humanitarian relief efforts in the Gaza Strip and underscored the value of the partnership between Japan and the ERC.

The Government of Japan reaffirms its dedication to supporting Egypt's endeavors in providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Alongside its financial contributions, Japan is also actively engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at improving the overall humanitarian conditions in the region.

This initiative represents a crucial step towards addressing the immediate needs of the Palestinian people in Gaza, highlighting the importance of international cooperation and solidarity in times of crisis.
