Various media agencies expressed on Sunday that Italy's Sicilian town Torina is selling the town's abandoned homes home for only 1 Euro for each as the local authorities aim to attract new residents to the town.

CNN described the price of the home as "less than the cost of an espresso."

Torina Mayor Sebastiano Fabio Venezia expressed his hopes of bringing the town to life again and breaking the sense of its stony silence.

Torina has been declining over the past few decades after the immigration of its residents to more modern houses around Troina or leaving it entirely.

Venezia told CNN Travel, "I want to save our old district from the grave and recover its lost grandeur when it was the Norman capital of Sicily" adding, "The ancient urban setting must be restyled in its entirety, and I intend to do so quickly."

Therefore, the authorities of the town set up a multilingual task force of housing and legal experts to guide the new buyers alongside establishing an online agency.

Buyers are expected to pay a deposit guarantee of 5,000 euros, which will be returned to them once the renovation work is complete.

On the other hand, people who intended to make use of the on-euro deal will be granted 15, 000 euros as a "restyle bonus" as well as another 10,000 euros for energy efficiency works.
