On Wednesday, Italian police revealed an online death threat to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her 6-year-old daughter from an unemployed person angry at government plans to cut subsidies to combat poverty.
It turned out that the man who made the threat was a 27-year-old from Sicily, and he was under investigation because of his behavior.
In a statement, the police revealed that his house was searched and his Twitter account closed.
Meloni's right-wing government is seeking to reduce the so-called citizens' income plan next year, in preparation for its complete abolition in 2024.
Meloni, who took office in October, has long been critical of the Citizens' Income Scheme, which was introduced in 2019.
Under the proposals included in the 2023 budget, which is being discussed by parliament, income benefits for citizens will stop after eight months except for families with children, the elderly 60 or over, and people with disabilities.
