The mayor of Capri, Paolo Falco, announced today the repair of a pipeline that supplies drinking water from mainland Italy to the island near Naples.
This development means tourists can once again visit the island.
Falco lifted the ban on tourist entry after water started flowing through the pipeline on Saturday evening.
Previously, only permanent residents were allowed to travel across the Bay of Naples to the island due to insufficient water supplies to meet the demands of both residents and tourists.
In response to pressure from hotlines and travel companies, Falco had made an exception for tourists staying in hotels with adequate water reserves.
Now, with the pipeline fully operational, the island is ready to welcome all visitors.
