Italian Foreign Minister (FM) Antonio Tajani expressed his belief today that it is possible to halt the ongoing cycle of violence in the Middle East.
In a tweet on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter), Tajani stated, "I have spoken with my Israeli counterpart Israel Katz and Lebanese counterpart Abdullah Bouhabib to avoid the outbreak of a new war," stressing that respect for United Nations Resolution 1701 is of utmost importance.
In a statement, the Italian Foreign Minister said, "I conveyed the government's deepest condolences to Minister Katz for the Majdal Shams attack and condemned in the strongest terms the violence against civilians. I also assured Minister Bouhabib of the government's commitment to supporting Lebanese institutions, whose stability is key to the stability of the entire region."
Tajani, who leads the Forza Italia party, added, "We are committed to supporting the Lebanese armed forces on a bilateral and multilateral level, by promoting an international aid program that can strengthen and better equip them."
He emphasized that the continuation and expansion of the conflict is in no one's interest, reaffirming that Italy strongly supports any mediation initiative that can encourage dialogue between the involved parties.
