Video clips showed Tel Aviv, the capital city of Israel, residents rushing to stores, after the authorities asked them to prepare to stay in shelters for 72 hours, and to store enough water and food.

The Israeli army's Home Front Command issued unusual instructions to residents and said in a statement on Monday said that, "In light of the development of fighting in various sectors, equipment must be prepared that allows you and your family to remain in the protected area for up to 72 hours."

The authorities explained that equipment must include "supplying 3 liters of water per person per day, a stock of dry and canned food, battery-operated lighting or flashlights, a battery-operated radio, and portable batteries for mobile phones."

The Israeli leadership also called on Tel Aviv residents to "also put in their bags medicines, first aid items, personal documents, money, and the necessary supplies for children and pets."
