An unvaccinated Israeli woman was diagnosed with Coronavirus and flu, a case that is known as "Florona", reports revealed on Thursday.
Beilinson Women’s Department staff said the woman, in her thirties, was released today from the hospital in good general condition along with the baby. She gave birth in the 38th week of her pregnancy, according to a Beilinson Hospital statement
Officials affirmed that this is the first mother to be diagnosed with both influenza and coronavirus in Beilinson.
“We have been treating it with a combination of drugs that target both corona and the flu,” said Prof. Arnon Viznitzer, director of the Beilinson Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
"This is certainly a challenging time, and in addition to coronary heart disease, we are increasingly suffering from the flu," Viznitzer added.
On the other hand, Israel has approved a fourth vaccine dose for residents who are most vulnerable to COVID-19. The decision was made to prevent a new wave of infections fueled by the Omicron variant.
Nachman Ash, the director-general of Israel's Health Ministry, announced the decision at a press conference, asserting that the doses would initially be given to those with weakened immune systems.
"We will continue to track the data on a daily basis and we will see if we need to broaden this recommendation to more of the population," he said.
