Tunisian international Ismaël Gharbi has officially joined Bundesliga side FC Augsburg on loan from Sporting Braga until the end of the season.
The deal includes a purchase option, allowing the German club to secure him permanently next summer.
Augsburg confirmed the move in a statement on Monday, noting that Gharbi, 21, arrives to strengthen the attacking unit after impressing during the first half of the season with Braga.
The transfer comes just days after Gharbi made headlines by committing his international future to Tunisia.
He was called up by head coach Jalel Kadri for the upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifiers, with Tunisia set to face Liberia on September 4 and Equatorial Guinea on September 8. He’s expected to make his senior debut during this window.
Born in Paris to a Tunisian father and Spanish mother, Gharbi holds three nationalities – Tunisian, Spanish, and French. He previously represented Spain at U19 level before officially switching allegiance to Tunisia.
Gharbi joined Braga in the summer of 2024 from Paris Saint-Germain, where he came through the youth academy and made 12 senior appearances during the 2022/23 campaign. Last season, he spent time on loan at FC Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland, contributing to 13 goals (6 goals, 7 assists) across 31 matches.
In the current campaign with Braga, he featured in 15 league matches, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists, alongside appearances in both the Portuguese Cup and UEFA Europa League. Known for his tactical versatility, Gharbi is capable of playing across five different positions in midfield and attack.
His contract with Braga runs until June 2029, and his current market value is estimated at €7.5 million.
