Striker Islam Slimani made history as the first Algerian player to score a goal in the Brazilian Football League “Brasileiro Serie A” ever.

Slimani, 35, joined the ranks of the Brazilian team Coritiba, during the 2023 summer Mercato, in a free transfer deal, after the expiration of his contract with the Belgian club Anderlecht.

Slimani scored his team's only goal against host Sao Paulo (1-2) in the last minute of the first half of the match that brought them together Thursday, in the 22nd round of the Brazilian League.

Coritiba SC occupies last place in the overall Brazilian First Division table, with 14 points before 14 rounds of the competition ends.

It is noteworthy that Islam Slimani tops the list of the best scorers in the history of the Algerian national team with 42 goals, ahead of retired star Abdelhafid Tasfaout.
