The Iraqi Ministry for Health and Environment affirmed today, Saturday, that the country is suffering from unprecedented rates of infections with the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19).
Seif Al-Bard, a spokesman for the ministry, said that Iraq faces an unprecedented percentage of the fierce infections with the deadly virus.
He warned that the country negotiated a very dangerous epidemiological situation that needs a serious confrontation to cope with the major challenges due to the COVID-19.
He stressed that the Iraqi people must be aware of the destructive results of the pandemic, calling for adhering to the preventive measurements, wearing facial masks, social distancing, and being vaccinated.
The spokesman said that the ministry during the meeting of the committee tasked with following –up the measurements against the COVID-19, has submitted recommendations to the higher committee to take suitable steps to confront the pandemic.
However, last Thursday, Iraq’s Prime Minister (PM) Mustafa Al-Kadhimi met with Brett H. McGurk, the White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa.
The Iraqi Premier discussed with the US envoy mechanisms of withdrawal of the US combatant forces from Iraq.
The Iraqi government issued a statement that revealed that Al-Kadhimi and Brett H. McGurk touched on coordination and joint cooperation between Iraq and the United States of America (USA) in various fields and preparations for holding the next round of the strategic dialogue.
They also discussed advancing to a new stage of strategic cooperation that upgrades the relation between the two countries and bolsters the security and sovereignty of Iraq.
Al-Kadhimi and his American guest discussed how Iraq and the USA could widen their cooperation in the fields of economy, culture, trade, and health to confront the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
