Iraq’s national carrier, Iraqi Airways, has announced the resumption of direct flights between Baghdad and Beijing, marking the end of a multi-year suspension.
On Saturday, the first flight departed from Baghdad International Airport to Beijing Daxing International Airport, as per the airline’s statement on social media.
The company highlighted that this move aligns with directives from Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, aimed at expanding the national carrier's reach to various regional and international destinations.
Manaf Abdul Muneim, Director General of Iraqi Airways, emphasized the significance of reinstating this vital route.
“The reopening of this route between Iraq and China, which is the second of its kind after Guangzhou, is a crucial step that will foster new opportunities for cooperation between Baghdad and Beijing,” he stated.
Abdul Muneim also mentioned that the schedule includes two weekly flights: departures from Iraq on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and returns from Beijing on Sundays and Wednesdays.
To enhance the travel experience, Iraqi Airways has allocated its latest aircraft, the "Dreamliner," known for its luxurious travel amenities and capability to cover long distances, for the Baghdad-Beijing route.
