Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy announced on Saturday the detention of a container ship "linked to Israel" in the waters of the Gulf, according to the Iranian state news agency (IRNA).

The agency stated, "The special naval force detained the container ship 'MSC Ariaz' during an operation carried out by a helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz."

The same source noted that the ship "flies the Portuguese flag and is operated by the Zodiac company owned by the Israeli capitalist Eyal Ofer," and "is being escorted to Iranian territorial waters."

The Strait of Hormuz, located between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, is a vital waterway through which a significant portion of the world's oil shipments pass.

Iran has previously threatened to close the strait in response to perceived threats, raising concerns about potential disruptions to global oil supplies and maritime security in the region.

Moreover, tensions between Iran and Israel have been longstanding due to political, ideological, and geopolitical factors, contributing to periodic escalations in the region.
